WTNZ Update July 2022

WTNZ Update July 2022
Kia ora koutou katoa,

It is with great pleasure that I bring this update to all members, supporters, and stakeholders.

We recently held our WTNZ Kyorugi Referee and Judges course in Auckland on 2nd July which was
very well attended by officials, instructors and coaches from around the country. The course was
conducted by Denzil Ray WT/WTO Educator and covered the very latest WT rule changes that
recently took effect internationally. Utilising our Daedo Gen 2 scoring system, participants were able
to learn and apply the updates both at the seminar and our WTNZ Open Championships the next
day.

As for our WTNZ Open Championships held in Auckland on Sunday 3rd July, these were a great
success, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all athletes, officials, volunteers and
supporters who participated and helped make it a great day of Taekwondo competition for all. We
had competitors and officials take part from Dunedin, Timaru, Christchurch, Wellington and
Auckland. After such a long layoff from being able to hold events due to the Covid19 situation, it
was fantastic seeing everyone reconnect and come together at this event.

I would also like to extend a special thanks to our esteemed guests who gave up their time to come
along and support the event; Our Patron Grandmaster Tae Kyung Kim, Member of Parliament
Melissa Lee, 2016 Olympian Andrea Kilday, our principal sponsor the Embassy of the Republic of
Korea to New Zealand represented by Mr Seoungkuk Kang, and of course Denzil Ray for providing
handson tutoring and officiating over the weekend.

Our Kyorugi members got to compete under the new WT competition rules and the Daedo Gen 2
scoring system, and this made for an exciting series of matches for the athletes which the supporters
and public thoroughly enjoyed. WTNZ will be holding more events and opportunities for members to
capitalise on this progress in the coming weeks and we will provide further updates shortly.

One such opportunity is the upcoming 4th Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Final being held in Korea
